Welcome Email Sequence
/welcome-sequence
Claude Code builds welcome sequences designed around the critical first 7 to 14 days when subscriber engagement and purchase intent are highest. Each email has a specific job in the activation journey from establishing expectations to driving the first meaningful action.
What this skill does
Design a welcome sequence architecture with a clear job for each email in the series
Write email 1 that delivers on the signup promise immediately and sets expectations
Build the trust and value emails that convert new subscribers before they go cold
Write the conversion nudge emails with timing and offer logic that drives first purchase or activation
How to use it
Define the subscriber context
Describe what the subscriber signed up for, what you promised them, and what you want them to do within the first 14 days.
Run /welcome-sequence
Specify the sequence length, your product type (SaaS, e-commerce, newsletter), and whether you have an offer for new subscribers.
Configure in your ESP
Load each email into your automation tool with the timing and conditional logic Claude Code specifies.
Example prompts
$Write a 5-email welcome sequence for our SaaS tool. New users sign up for a free trial. Goal: get them to connect their first data source within 48 hours.
$Create a welcome series for our e-commerce brand's new subscribers. They signed up via a 15% discount popup. Sequence should drive that first purchase within 7 days.
$Build a 3-email welcome sequence for our marketing newsletter. Goal: get new subscribers to read 3 issues before they go cold.
Who it's for
SaaS companies with low trial-to-activation rates who need better onboarding emails
E-commerce brands converting new list subscribers into first-time buyers
Newsletter creators building the habit of opening every week from the moment of signup
Frequently asked questions
When should the first welcome email send?
Immediately on signup, within minutes. The moment someone joins your list is the highest-engagement moment you'll have with them. Delaying the first email by hours or days wastes the peak intent window. Claude Code sequences email 1 as an immediate trigger.
Should the welcome sequence include a discount?
For e-commerce, a welcome discount drives the first purchase and establishes the buyer relationship. For SaaS, discounts in the welcome sequence can devalue the product. Claude Code recommends based on your business model and will write the offer positioning either way.
What's the difference between a welcome sequence and an onboarding sequence?
Welcome sequences establish the relationship and drive first action. Onboarding sequences, which typically run in parallel for SaaS, guide users through product setup and feature discovery. Claude Code can write both as separate series or integrate them based on your ESP's automation capabilities.
